T-TEL holds Policy Dialogue with NAB

T-TEL has held a Policy Dialogue on Teacher Education Reform for Board members of the National Accreditation Board (NAB) at the Aqua Safari Resort, Ada, from 8th – 10th February, 2018.

The main objective of the meeting was to present the journey (vision and overview) of Teacher Education Reform from T-TELs perspective and discuss the elements of the National Teachers’ Standards and the National Teacher Education Curriculum Framework. This was aimed at helping the NAB Board understand the implications of the Policy on Teacher Education Reforms and the accompanying roadmap for implementation.

The meeting also sought to get the Boards’ approval of the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Instrument that T-TEL has supported NAB’s technical staff to develop for assessing and reaccrediting colleges of Education.

Delivering the keynote address, the Deputy Minister of Education Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum said Ghana needs an education system that responds adequately to its developmental needs and which is dynamic enough to suit the demands of rapid technological development. He said for Ghana to have an educational system which is learner centred, we need to take a second look at the nature of the curricula being implemented in our schools.

 “The Teacher Education Curriculum Framework will guide teacher education universities to develop curricula intended to help Ghana address its’ educational and 21st century needs” he added.

Hon. Dr. Adutwum then called on members to take a keen look at the Curriculum Framework developed by the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE) with the support of Transforming Teacher Education and Learning (T-TEL) and provide guidelines on the expectations of the National Accreditation Board regarding the development of the Curriculum to meet accreditation requirements.
