NTC hands over National Teachers' Standards to Colleges of Education
The National Teaching Council (led by its Executive Secretary, Dr. Evelyn Oduro) has handed over copies of the National Teachers' Standards (for both Pre and In-Service teachers) to Colleges of Education across the country.
The handover ceremony (held at the Accra College of Education) officially marked the distribution of 68,000 copies of the document to all student teachers and tutors of all 46 public Colleges of Education, Newly Qualified Teachers and Universities that engage in Initial teacher training. The books were received by Dr. Samuel Atintono, Principal of Accra College of Education on behalf of all Colleges of Education in the country.
What is the National Teachers' Standards?
The National Teachers’ Standards set out the minimum levels of practice that all trained teachers must reach by the end of their pre-service teacher education course in order to play such a critical role.
They also inform teachers’ development while on their first year as Newly Qualified Teachers on their induction course in schools prior to licensing as professional teachers by the National Teaching Council (NTC) and provide the framework for future professional and career development for all teachers.
