“A great example of supporting Ghana to move beyond aid”
For the fourth year in a row, T-TEL has achieved an ‘A’ rating in DFID’s annual review of the programme’s 2017/2018 implementation year. Our innovative way of working is considered responsible for the momentum of change currently sweeping across the teacher education sector in Ghana.
The report highlights our “politically-sensitive and consultative approach which has enabled [T-TEL] to effectively engage a wide range of key stakeholders, push the agenda of improving teacher education, and navigate the political economy.” It further states that the role we “previously played in publicly driving the reforms and acting as a vehicle for change is no longer as necessary, as the reforms have become increasingly institutionalized into government.”
This high rating follows the Ministry of Education and DFID agreeing a two-year extension for the programme – from 1st January 2019 until 31st December 2020.
The review is a testament to the impact of the programme on the wider Ghanaian education sector and, more broadly, the economy of the country. The report makes several recommendations to consolidate the gains of the programme over the next two years.
